Did you know that:

  • $65 supplies a woman released from jail or prison with a “starter kit” for independent living, including getting official copies of a birth certificate and other documentation she needs to find work, as well as supplies to meet her immediate needs such as a Metrocard, personal hygiene supplies and referrals to community resources.

  • $130 underwrites three peer escort trips to the prison gate. Escorts meet women at release, take them for a hot meal, and accompany them to WPA’s office to enroll in our programs.

  • $250 pays for a ten-week intensive job-readiness workshop for one woman, where she can gain the skills and knowledge to find and maintain employment.

Your contribution will make a difference, not just in human terms, but in economic terms as well:

  • $8,000 spent to support a woman’s six-month stay in our Alternative to Incarceration program saves taxpayers over $32,000 in prison or jail costs.

  • $10,000 spent to provide one New York family with home-based family case management can keep children safe and families strong, saving the child welfare system about $60,000 in foster care expenses.

Your contribution to WPA’s Institute on Women & Criminal Justice makes a difference by supporting our advocacy and research work to shape the national conversation on women and criminal justice.
