WPA Reentry Services include
a full array of prison, jail, and community-based
assistance aimed at helping women become
full participants in community life following
incarceration or other criminal justice
involvement. Services include:
and
are offered at WPA’s Reentry Services
Center in Downtown Brooklyn. Some services
are provided at the New York City jail
and in several state prisons for women.
Women commonly request assistance to
cope with an immediate crisis—usually
homelessness, hunger, or lack of money
or a way to earn it – and often
remain connected with WPA services through
a period of stabilization and as they
turn their focus to long-term aspirations
for livelihood, permanent housing, family,
health and well-being, and criminal justice
compliance.
In addition to getting help at the Reentry
Services Center, women can participate
in an array of planned group outings.
We organize regular trips to public events
like AIDS walks and anti-violence marches,
as well as social outings like picnics
and day trips to the beach. Women also
participate in statewide lobbying trips
to Albany and local civic activities.
These opportunities promote personal
growth and expose women to different
aspects of the communities in which they
live.
