Celebrating the Life and Legacy of Nancy Carr, Former WPA Board President

We celebrate the life and legacy of Nancy Carr, a former Board President of WPA committed to community and service, who passed away at the age 90.
Nancy served on WPA’s Board of Directors beginning in 1984 and was involved in the organization in various capacities, including as Board President, Secretary, and across specialized committees. In her words, she was drawn to the community because “[WPA] sought to make a city-wide impact on the quality of life of a group of women who were really ignored and overlooked by everyone else.”
Nancy was a strategic leader and volunteer for many organizations over the years, including the Neighborhood Coalition for Shelter, where she was a founding Board member, and the Volunteer Referral Center, where she was a founding Board member and served as President for over 20 years. She was a graduate of Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing, where she met her late husband of 67 years, Dr. Ronald E. Carr. She practiced as a nurse at New York Hospital before devoting her life to volunteerism and community care.
We express our condolences to her family, friends, and all those she impacted through her advocacy and leadership.
