Supportive Housing

Supportive, affordable, and safe housing is essential for helping formerly incarcerated individuals achieve long-term stability.

Housing access is the first step towards someone’s rehabilitation, but too often, those who need it most are left behind. Providing housing and community-based resources to systems-involved individuals is a critical investment that reduces the likelihood of incarceration and recidivism and helps people, families, and communities thrive.

The Rise

The Rise

Our justice-involved supportive housing (JISH) facility for formerly incarcerated people and their families in Brownsville, Brooklyn, takes a compassionate approach to reentry.

The Rise provides immediate stability after incarceration and access to supportive services. WPA offers on-site case management and re-entry support, empowering residents through workforce development workshops, fitness classes, clinical counseling, financial literacy classes, technology support through the Brooklyn Public Library, and more. Dedicated and compassionate staff encourage residents to set long-term goals and help them discover opportunities that foster growth, resilience, and independence.

The Rise benefits residents beyond securing a home after incarceration—it prioritizes the mental well-being and health of those who live there. The Rise uses trauma-informed architectural design to create a dignified and inviting home, including:

  • bright living areas with oversized windows and plenty of natural light
  • outdoor green spaces that provide unrestricted access to nature
  • a rooftop garden for farming and harvesting fresh produce, run in partnership with Project EATS
  • community spaces and gym access, including a spin room
