Social Justice in Action: Five Ways We Show Up for Women Impacted by the Criminal Legal System

Our commitment to social justice means investing in community, advancing decarceration, and ensuring women impacted by the criminal legal system have the resources they need to thrive. Here’s how we remove barriers and create pathways to stability and success for the women we serve:

Court Advocacy

We fight to keep women in their communities where they can stabilize, heal, and thrive.

Women are better served in their communities, not in jails or prisons. By working with NYC courts to create opportunities for alternatives to incarceration, we set clients up to receive community-based services as a substitute for jail or prison time and connect them to the resources and services they need.

Safe and Stable Housing

Housing stability is justice in action.

Without a safe and stable place to call home, women are forced to put everything else on hold. By ensuring women impacted by the criminal justice system can access housing, we are removing one of the biggest barriers keeping them from stability and success.

Preventative Health Resources

We educate women on the resources that are available to them during and after incarceration.

Access to preventative health care reduces health disparities among justice-impacted women and empowers them to take charge of their health and wellness.

Trauma-Informed Clinical Care

Untreated trauma and unmet mental health needs are often major drivers of women’s involvement in the criminal legal system.

Our clinical services address the full spectrum of mental health needs, including trauma-informed care that uplifts survivors of trauma and violence.

Employment Support

Economic stability is a pathway to freedom.

We help women build meaningful careers through job readiness training, résumé development, and interview preparation, ensuring they have the tools, confidence, and opportunities to achieve long-term financial independence.

Through our work, we continue building a future rooted in equity, opportunity, and lasting change for justice-impacted women, their families, and communities in New York and beyond.
